Common questions asked when learning to drive (6)
Standard driving lessons or intensive driving lessons:
Which course is right for me?
Most pupils learning to drive take a 'standard' course, comprising somewhere between 1 to 3 two-hour sessions a week. Whilst virtually every pupil has two-hour lessons, you can also take one-hour lessons if you wish, particularly if you find it difficult to concentrate for the full two-hours.
Some pupils like the idea of having many lessons per week to get to driving test standard quicker, and therefore opt to do an 'intensive course'. How 'intensive' is again up to you. However, bear in mind there is a lot of material to cover and lots of practice to do, so set yourself a manageable time frame! Pupils choosing to do an intensive driving course will typically have around 20 to 40 hours per week, spread over 1 to 4 weeks with a view to taking their practical driving test at the end of the course.
So which course is right for you? Well, everyone is different. You would be best to have an initial two-hour lesson to see how you get on and then decide from there. Some pupils start doing intensive lessons and find their concentration levels wavering and then decide to spread out their lessons into more manageable chunks. Others find doing a full day of lessons no problem. Many like the idea of giving themselves time for skills to develop and therefore spread their lessons over a period of months (this can also make costs more manageable!). In any case, all courses are designed to be flexible to cater for everyone's different requirements, ability and availability.
